I know that she wears blush colored lipstick- always slightly smudged- and smells like rose water. Her long nails were always painted and her hair was curled by the old school rollers. I know the basics. However, I didn’t realize just how much I didn’t know.
Grandma Wade has been a important figure to me my whole life, and it’s hard to register the fact that she’s lived so many different experiences even before me. These experiences that I’ve learned include her childhood, struggles, and stages of growth which shaped her into the strong, level-headed, graceful woman she was.
She devoted herself for over 26 years to the education system for children with special needs. She was perfect for the job, she had so much patience, understanding, and love in her heart. She cared for them as if they were her own. Every Sunday she would teach Sunday school. During the week she would sit in her sunroom with a pen, highlighter and journal. Only the most important parts were highlighted in pink. The edges of the Bible were her side note column.
She was tough. Not jus because of the time period she grew up in, or living on a farm, or the many siblings, food being scarce, but because she knew no one was in more pain than her Lord Jesus Christ. That if He could give himself to his people that she could power through anything.
Till her last breath she sang praise, because that is when the angels came near by. She knew something brighter, more divine, and heavenly was waiting on the other side.
She has taught many of us that to get through life, you most devote yourself to something more greater than oneself. That we will remain powerless without the light of the Universe. There is every lasting life with just a small amount of faith.
